Felted Mittens

These are plain-vanilla mittens in Cascade Eco Wool. I made it a bit larger than needed because I wanted to felt the fingertips and palm to make it windproof.

This yarn felts easily and beautifully. I just had to soak it for a few minutes in hot water, then rub it by hand for another few minutes. I kept the cuffs intact.

Stamping Fabrics

I decided to try my hand on stamping to spice up a bit my fabric stash. The samples below were made by simply stamping Jacquard textile colour (colour: Periwinkle) right out of the bottle on polymer stamps attached to a plexiglass sheet.

This was my very first attempt at it, and I’m not sure yet if I like the result. On paper it looks way better.

Winter gave us a break

Winter gave us a break this Sunday. It was warm and sunny, a gorgeous day to take photos at High Park. This hat was finished in January (pattern: Luciana P; yarn: Mirasol Hacho, double-stranded).

Luxury knitting

It’s great to have a fashion photographer at home. These handwarmers never looked better.

Photo Gear Bag

This drawstring bag was designed with four sturdy internal pockets to hold photo equipment.  It makes it easier to carry flashlights and remote controls to photo shoots. It turned out a bit too sturdy for the job, it could have been made of lighter fabric.

Finishing Party

The vegan-feast finishing party was productive. I was able to finish three pairs of handwarmers that had been on hold for a bit longer than I planned.

Crafty Sunday – printer cover

This printer cover has been requested a while ago. It makes the office equipment less of an eyesore.

Table cloth

We’re having guests next Saturday, so I thought it’d be a good idea to have a nice table cloth to show off for dinner. We usually go by with placemats only, but it’s time to change that. The 100% cotton fabric resembles linen and is actually an Ikea curtain. As per my usual minimalist way, I cut it up, hemmed it and adorned it with some top-stitching. Clean and simple.

I’m a hooker

The first project of 2010 is ready. And I guess I went to the ‘dark side’ and am now officially a hooker. These crochet slippers were very quick and improvised while we watched “Julie & Julia”.

…And more handwarmers

Cascade handwarmers (100% wool). Yes, yet another pair of handwarmers. I have cold hands, I guess.

More handwarmers

These Timiquipa (100% baby alpaca sport weight) handwarmers are so soft… They were made as a gift for my friend Silvia, but I’m getting quite attached to them.  I’m working on the pattern, that will include instructions for sport, dk and worsted weights and charts.

This is a quick and very rewarding knit, suitable for frugal knitters: a 50g-skein makes a pair. If you’re using Cascade 220, you get four handwarmers (yes, four!) out of a single 100g skein.

And believe me, they don’t look cheap as a gift.

Cascade 220 handwarmers made for Christmas gifts.  Pictured here in two different sizes. I used one skein to make two pairs.

The Nicest Sweater Ever

I planned this to be the nicest sweater ever, and so far it has been the best I’ve made.

So far.

The yarn is Naturally Harmony 10 ply (100% natural undyed merino, from New Zealand). This is maybe my favourite yarn.  I used 14 skeins in the 802 colourway plus scraps for the stripes.

Built in one single piece from top-down (no seams).
